Blake Lively is one of the most recognizable A-listers out there. She’s known for her signature beachy blonde waves and her glamorous looks that never fail to make an impression on whatever red carpet she’s walking. But for her latest movie, The Rhythm Section, she transforms into completely different people as she disappears into disguises for her role as badass British civilian turned assassin Stephanie Patrick. And TBH, she’s basically unrecognizable.
The film follows Stephanie, who has hit rock bottom three years after her whole family dies in a plane crash. She used to be one of the top students at Oxford, but after the accident, she falls into a downward spiral of self-destruction with drugs and alcohol and eventually takes a job at a brothel. But when a journalist named Keith Proctor (Raza Jaffrey) tells her that the plane her family was on was actually bombed, she finds purpose again and decides to avenge the death of her loved ones. Intense!
In completing her mission, Stephanie has to reframe her mind-set, acquire survival skills, and develop a killer instinct. With the help of Boyd (Jude Law), she unleashes her inner fighter. But in order to see her plan through, she also has to transform her physical appearance. And so Stephanie’s thrilling, action-packed journey also becomes a fun opportunity for multiple Blake Lively makeover moments. Let’s go on a ~journey~, shall we?
The old Stephanie
Before the event that would throw her life completely off track, Stephanie was your everyday family gal who loved playing board games and drinking wine with her fam. In the flashbacks to those joyful times, you’ll see Blake wearing her hair like she typically does: blonde and wavy. She also looks absolutely cozy in sweaters and comfy clothes for lounging around in the Patrick household.
Stephanie as Lisa
When Stephanie takes a job at the brothel, she keeps her true identity a secret. The memories of her family and her old self are too painful to bear, so she tries to erase her old self by changing her name, taking drugs, and getting wasted. She cuts her long locks into a messy, choppy bob and introduces herself as “Lisa” to her clients and to Keith when he finds her at her place of work.
Stephanie as Petra Reuter
Boyd tells Stephanie to take on the identity of a dead German assassin named Petra Reuter. For this, she goes into a salon and has her dirty-blonde bob transformed into a chic, dark pixie cut with subtle curls. She also ditches her raggedy clothes for a more sleek, muted wardrobe. This resurrection is meant as a form of camouflage to fool the people in cahoots with the bomber, Reza (Tawfeek Barhom), and get her close enough to kill every last one of them.
Stephanie as Petra Reuter in Disguise
When Stephanie first meets up with informer Marc Serra (Sterling K. Brown)—who is essential in order to lead her to Reza—she has to do so in public. So to convince him that she is Petra Reuter in hiding, she wears another disguise on top of her Petra disguise. She sports a wig with dark-red braided hair and stick-straight bangs.
Petra’s killer look
In order to gain Marc’s trust, Petra (who is actually Stephanie) takes on a target that one of his clients wants murdered. For the price of $2 million, she flies all the way to New York to kill playboy billionaire Leon Giler (Max Casella). In order to get to his penthouse apartment, she pretends to be one of his call girls. Stephanie wears a red wig once more but this time with big curls and short, curled, ’50s-style bangs. She’s also dressed to literally kill in a strappy black leather lingerie look—with a dagger hiding in one of her elbow-length gloves.
