THE soap world is full of surprises with Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale all regularly shocking viewers.
But recently viewers have been left stunned by the ages of some of the most popular characters on screen.

EastEnders’ Billy Mitchell – 61
EastEnders fans were shocked to discover Billy’s real age.
The character, who is played by Perry Fenwick, 58, told the bald-headed tough nut he was 61 in a scene that left viewers reeling.
One fan boggled: "Billy really 61? He looks the same as he did 30 years ago!"
A second tweeted: "Shut up! Did I hear right then? Billy Mitchell is 61."
Another wrote: "NO CHANCE is our billy Mitchell 61 years of age. Plot twist of the century."
Coronation Street’s Sean Tully – nearly 50
Corrie shocked viewers when it revealed Sean Tully is rapidly approaching 50.
In a scene where the machinist – who is played by Antony Cotton, 45 – demanded Gemma and Chesney pay him the commission from his make-up pyramid scheme, he revealed his true age.
Gemma told him: “I feel about 50 today.”
And Sean replied: “Don’t – that is my next significant birthday I mean it’s in a while but even so.”
Fans couldn’t believe it with one tweeting: “Sean is nearly 50?!”

EastEnders’ Kathy Beale – 70
Viewers were stunned last year when Kathy Beale revealed she is 70.
The cafe owner – who is played by actress Gillian Taylforth, 65 – dropped 20 years off her age for a dating profile and fans found that far more believable than her true age.
One fan asked: "How the f**k is Kathy 70?! I honestly thought she was in her 30s!!"
A second said: "A lot of stuff in #EastEnders is completely unbelievable but Kathy being 70 years old?! I'll have what she's been drinking please, Merlin."
A third said: "Kathy is 70? Bloody hell Ian looks more like 70 than Kathy."

Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle – 50
Fans still can’t believe Cain Dingle’s real age.
The bad boy – who is played by 50-year-old Jeff Hordley – was unmasked to be 50 earlier this year and fans were in shock.
One wrote: Cain is ancient [laughing emojis] #emmerdale”
A second said: "I can honestly say… Cain is definately the fittest 50 year old I have ever seen!! #Emmerdale"
Another said: “Cannot believe Cain is 50! I thought he was like 43 or something.”
EastEnders’ Big Mo – 82
For a woman who runs around buying dodgy goods from Fat Elvis, Big Mo has got a lot of miles on the clock.
Despite looking decades younger, the market trader – Laila Morse, 75 – is actually in her eighties.
One wrote: "Wait, WHAT? Big Mo is 82?"
A second said: "If Big Mo is supposed to be 82, she don’t look bad on it really."
Another added: "Mo looks brilliant for 82”
Emmerdale’s Paddy Kirk – 50
Paddy’s birthday celebrations didn’t go off without a hitch last year – though fans were distracted by his age.
The soap confirmed Paddy – Dominic Brunt, 50 – was celebrating his half century but with a newborn daughter and much more youthful looks, fans refused to believe it.
