Dominic, 55, is best known for presenting numerous consumer affair programmes as well as having his own segments on BBC’s The One Show. However, he will be swapping his usual day job for a role in the Celebrity MasterChef studio kitchen this week as he faces off against four other all-stars hoping to make it through to the next round of the competition. What will quickly transpire in Wednesday night’s episode is the television personality will need to pay closer attention to detail as he makes a mistake which has never before been seen on the show.

With five celebrities already showing judges John Torode, 54, and Gregg Wallace, 55, their skills in the kitchen, another bunch of famous faces are set the same challenges in this week’s episodes.

As usual, each new contestant will have to give the critics a taste of the kind of chef they are as they take on the invention test.

The all-stars will then be given their first experience in a professional kitchen, where a highly acclaimed chef will be on hand to mentor them through a busy lunch shift.

Dominic will be trying to perfect the dishes of the London based restaurant Cinnamon Kitchen, but all doesn’t go to plan.

In charge of making lamb kebabs and garlic naan, the presenter takes on a tandoor oven but makes a huge mistake in the process.

Beginning to smell burning plastic, Dominic quickly realises he added an unthinkable ingredient to one of the parts of his dish.

“My plastic timer has gone in the oven, I’m going to need to get that out,” the presenter remarks, being the first-ever contestant to have made such an error.

“Let’s be honest, chef, this is going disastrously wrong. I’ve burnt my hand and cremated six naan breads out of eight,” he recounts of his experience in the professional kitchen.

Viewers will have to wait and see if the mistake means the contestant is sent packing, as by the end of the episode, one of the five will leave the competition.

Joining Dominic in the kitchen this week is film star Phil Daniels, 61, who EastEnders fans will best know for playing the role of Kevin Wicks on the BBC soap.

Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK star Baga Chipz, 30, will also be featuring alongside Olympic hockey gold medallist Sam Quek, 31.

Completing this week’s line-up is Kingdom Choir conductor Karen Gibson, who led her musical troupe in a rendition of Stand By Me at the wedding of Meghan Markle, 38, and Prince Harry, 35.

By Friday, only two amateur chefs will remain from this heat and they will, therefore, progress into the semi-finals, which will air in a couple of weeks time.

Last week’s first heat of the competition saw Loose Women star Judi Love, 40, and former The Apprentice contestant Thomas Skinner, 29, become the first celebrities to secure their place in the semi-final.

They managed to defeat the likes of Death In Paradise actress Shyko Amos, Rak-Su singer Myles Stephenson, 28, and former professional footballer, John Barnes, 56.

Speaking of the latest line-up for the all-star series, Gregg told the Bournemouth Echo: “They act like celebrities when they first walk in, but I promise you, after round one, they’re no longer celebrities, they’re contestants.

“They think they can ‘showbiz’ their way through it and then they realise they’re seriously going to succeed or fail by the quality of their cookery – and so the glamour just falls away.”

“What you’re left with is hardworking MasterChef contestants, and I like that metamorphosis in them,” the judge continued.

Co-star John added of this year’s cast: “You end up with a level playing field, regardless of who you are.

“MasterChef, it’s a kitchen and everybody is the same, whether you’re a DJ rapper, whether you’re a footballer, a rower, a YouTuber or an actor, you’re exactly the same as everybody else.

“You’ve just got to cook your food get through it,” he explained, but viewers will have to wait a few more weeks to see who takes the crown this time around.

Celebrity MasterChef continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
