Christmas on Netflix 2019 review: The best cheesy Christmas films to watch

Let it Snow

When a snowstorm hits a small town on Christmas Eve, a group of high school students find themselves start to pay more attention to their friendships and love lives.

While Tobin (played by Mitchell Hope) begins to contemplate telling his lifelong friend Angie (Kiernan Shipka) how he really feels, Julie (Isabela Merced) runs into rising pop star Stuart Bale (Shameik Moore) whom she confides in about her life.

This is definitely one more for teenagers but it’s still filled with plenty of funny and touching moments that’ll fit perfectly into your Christmas viewing plan.

Holiday in the Wild

At first glance, this doesn’t seem like a particularly Christmassy movie but don’t let this put you off.

Despite being set in the glorious heat of Africa, there is still very much a festive feel to Holiday in the Wild.

After her husband ends their marriage, Kate (Kristen Davis) goes on a second honeymoon alone to Africa where she meets pilot Derek.

During a short flight over a safari, they spot a lone baby elephant and take it to the elephant orphanage where Kate and Derek stay over Christmas.

The film takes away the stereotypical version of the festive holidays and shows you what it is like to celebrate on another continent with a different culture, making you forget all about standing in endless queues to buy presents.

The Knight Before Christmas

Actress Vanessa Hudgens is at it again with this unusual Christmas movie.

She starred in last year’s The Princess Switch which will soon be getting a sequel but now has moved on to The Knight Before Christmas.

Here, a medieval knight (Josh Whitehouse) from Norfolk has magically been transported to present day America where high school science teacher Brooke (Vanessa Hudgens) teaches him about living in the 21st Century.

She initially believes he is suffering from a concussion after accidentally hitting him with her car but soon starts to realise he could be telling the truth after all.

There’s an endless list of questions which you will probably ask yourself while watching this but if you just enjoy it for what it is – a cheesy Christmas film with a fun and unbelievable plot – then you will enjoy this festive watch.

Klaus

If you love Despicable Me, then this could be one of your new Christmas favourites.

The beloved animated movie’s creator Sergio Pablos is behind this latest Netflix film which tells the story of postman Jesper (voiced by Jason Schwartzman).

After proving himself as the worst postman at the academy, he is sent to work at a frozen town in the North where barely any post is delivered.

However, he soon discovers this is where toymaker Klaus (J.K. Simmons) is hiding out and suggests that he could deliver his creations to children around the world.

Klaus is a cute story of how Santa Claus came to be and one for all the family this Christmas.

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby

Finally, one you won’t want to miss out on if you have seen the first two A Christmas Prince films, is this third movie in the Netflix series.

We once again follow the lives of Prince Richard (Ben Lamb) and Amber (Rose McIver) as they expect their first child.

But during the pregnancy, a 600-year-old historic treaty which is about to be signed is stolen and it’s up to everyone in the royal household to find out who took it.

If you have seen the first two films, then it’s only right to watch The Royal Baby.

There are references to what has previously happened but you can watch it as a stand alone film so if you’re looking for an extra cheesy film to get stuck into, then this would be it.

All of the above films are available to watch on Netflix now.
