Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan reveals she has quit smoking
Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan has revealed she’d made the decision to quit smoking in the middle of a stressful time in her life. On Wednesday’s instalment of the show, she told the panel: “I have got some big news! It kind of is [important], for you lot, because you’ve been putting up with me for years. I’ve finally, hopefully, quit the smoking habit.”
Her confession earned a round of applause from the live audience as they cheered in solidarity. Coleen continued: “To be fair, it took a really big scare for me to do it. I got a really bad, severe chest infection, couldn’t breathe and ended up with inhalers, steroids and antibiotics. They were talking about things like COPD [Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease].
“I’m thinking, ‘What am I doing? I need to stop’. So I’ve literally gone cold turkey, near Christmas! Hopefully, hopefully, this time I’ll manage to do it.”
However, she begged the panel not to get on her case about quitting as she highlighted the pressure people feel when giving up something.

Stacey Solomon replied: “No pressure, it’s incredible.”
Agreeing, Christine Lampard told the 58-year-old it’s important to have a group of supportive people around during times like this.
Coleen added: “I’m doing my best, it’s hard. It’s hard for any kind of addictive thing. It’s so hard and if you’ve never been there in that situation, you don’t realise how hard it is.”
Touching on the health scare she referred to earlier, Christine mentioned it ended up having a positive outcome as it prompted her to make this life decision.

The Loose Women star added: “Yeah, but equally there’s a lot of stressful things happening right now in my life where I think, ‘Oh what I would do for 20 cigarettes!’”
As the studio laughed, the panel continued to mention the little habits that will also change in her life now she no longer smokes.
Stacey added: “We won’t put any pressure on you. We won’t even mention it, whatever happens happens.”
Coleen then addressed those in the audience and viewers watching at home for their kind words of support.
She continued: “I really, really do appreciate all your comments and stories, you’re amazing. Thank you.”
Although Christine jokingly warned the whole nation is now keeping an eye on her as there will be no getting away if she decides to go back to smoking.
Loose Women continues weekdays on ITV from 12:30pm.
