CORONATION Street fans were stunned as Craig Charles revealedhis real age as she celebrates his birthday today.

The actor – who played the role of Lloyd Mullaney on the ITV soap between 2005 and 2015 – was inundated by celebratory messages from well wishers and fans.


But many could not believe their eyes as they discovered that the Red Dwarf actor had turned 59.

A number of fans flocked to comment on Craig's youthful looks.

One wrote: "Wow Craig looks great for his age," while a second posted: "I thought he looked much younger."

A third added: "I've grown up with Craig Charles but I didn't realise he was 59. He looks really good."

Earlier this year, the star left fans worried after he was rushed to hospital after falling ill live on air.

The actor was presenting his BBC 6Music show when he felt a tingling in his fingers.

Craig said: "My hands couldn't grip the pen and my fingers were tingling. I had a pain in the right side of my shoulder going up my neck and into the back of my head.

"The producer asked: 'Are you OK?' I said, 'Not really, but we'll get through the show."

Craig explained his wife Jackie later insisted they go straight to A&E at Wythenshawe Hospital after picking him up from the studio.

He explained that he had to spend the night in hospital, on a single trolley saying he only managed an hour of sleep.

The Lloyd Mullaney actor explained that he underwent tests including an ECG – a test that checks your heart – and a CT scan.

However, he added that doctors are still puzzled as to what was wrong with him.

Craig said: "They gave me an instant ECG to make sure that my heart was fine and all that."

Explaining he'd had to wait for five hours the star added: "This is no disrespect or no criticism of Wythenshawe Hospital – they were brilliant, they were professional, they were caring, they were dedicated.

"It's just they're understaffed and they're overworked so they called me in at sort of quarter to ten at night and said: 'You'll have to have a CT scan.'"

Craig said the it scan came back all clear with "nothing wrong with the brain".

The actors has played several iconic roles in British telly, including Dave Lister in the sci-fi comedy classic Red Dwarf.

He later starred as Corrie's Lloyd, fronted Robot Wars from 1998 to 2004 and narrated the cult gameshow Takeshi's Castle.
