Coronation Street fans were left fuming on Wednesday night as Kelly Neelan was sentenced to life imprisonment after she was wrongly sent down for Seb Franklin's murder.

Earlier this month, killer Corey Brent walked away from the high-stakes trial without a scratch against his name while Kelly was found guilty.

During Wednesday's episodes, lawyer Imran delivered a heartfelt speech where he begged the judge to consider Kelly's troubled upbringing and fragile mental health.

However, at the end of the first episode, the judge said: "I sentence you, Kelly Neelan, to life imprisonment with a minimum of 15 years to be served."

Soap watchers were quick to take to Twitter after the scenes aired as they shared their anger over the sentencing outcome.

One furious soap watcher tweeted: "Omg 15 years up to life in prison??? Corey needs to be sent down immediately #corrie."

A different shocked viewer ranted: "#Corrie @itvcorrie Yikes, 15 years… ffs."

Another angry fan put: "Absolutely brutal 15 years poor Kelly & the killer is running around Scott flamming free hope Corey gets caught out sooner rather than later. #Corrie."

A different viewer fumed: "This is ridiculous as Kelly didn’t kill him #corrie."

While another soap watcher added: "I'm sorry but i just cannot wrap my head around Kelly going down for life for what Corey has done, LIFE???? excuse me?? they better fix it immediately. #Corrie."

It comes after soap watchers were left fuming once again earlier this month as they watched killer Corey walk away from the high-stakes trial without a scratch against his name.

Instead, Kelly was sent down for Seb's murder after Corey's false testimony and prosecutor Sabeen's attack convinced the jury she was guilty.

Nina Lucas – who had been suffering from memory loss – may have remembered that Corey killed her boyfriend Seb in harrowing flashback scenes, but it wasn't enough to see him sent down.

Corey painted Kelly as the killer in his testimony and she was nervous as she explained the truth during the trial — telling the jury that she begged Corey to stop when she realised things were going too far.

But prosecutor Sabeen painted a different picture, claiming that Kelly beat Seb to death in an effort to impress Corey.
