Coronation Street spoilers: Is Bethany Platt leaving for good?

Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) is set to leave Coronation Street in dramatic scenes which will show her turn her back on the street for pastures new.

She recently realised her partner Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) isn’t ready to move on in the wake of his wife Sinead’s (Katie McGlynn) death, something that will be confirmed to Bethany when he proposes to her with his late wife’s ring.

Not only that – he will make the fatal error of calling Bethany by Sinead’s name.

This will seemingly be the wake-up call Bethany needs to call it a day on their relationship, and on the street altogether.

So while it’s clear Bethany will leave Corrie tonight – is it for good, and has actress Lucy left the soap?

Is Bethany Platt leaving Coronation Street for good?

Lucy announced her plans to leave the soap back in September with boss Iain MacLeod later telling Metro.co.uk that her departure would be a result of her ill-advised relationship with Daniel.

Speaking about her character’s decision to leave, actress Lucy said: ‘When the day comes, she is one hundred percent ready to leave. Everything that has happened recently and everything that has happened in Bethany’s past just cements in her mind that there is no reason for her to stay.

‘She needs to go and do this job in London, grab the opportunity and see what happens. Even though she is sad because she will miss everyone, she is ready for a new start.’

Be that as it may, London surely isn’t too far from Weatherfield, and Bethany is notably leaving on her own terms and not being killed off, so does that mean a return is on the cards?

Neither Lucy nor the Corrie bosses have given any indication Bethany will return, with Lucy saying she ‘will miss working’ with her co-stars, but that she is embarking on a ‘new, exciting’ chapter of her life.

‘It was really fitting because when we were doing the final scenes, there was quite a lot of dialogue about Bethany starting a new, exciting chapter of her life and it is similar to what I am going through and because I am also leaving the street in a way,’ she said.

Lucy, 24, who played the role of Bethany Platt for five years appeared on This Morning earlier today where she was asked about her next steps.

She said: ‘I don’t know [what I’ll do next]. I’m auditioning at the moment for different things. I’m going to keep my options open.’

‘But we don’t know if Bethany will say yes or no and we don’t know if she will leave on her own or go with Daniel,’ she teased.

Coronation Street continues tonight at 7:30pm.
