Coronation Street had to stop filming due to the coronavirus pandemic and so was forced to halve its number of episodes shown every week. The ITV drama will return to making new episodes in June and introduce social distancing measures, ensuring the cast and crew remain 2metres apart from one another. The soap will be featuring a coronavirus-themed storyline in the upcoming episodes.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Coronation Street.
Earlier this year, Oliver had suffered a fit while he was being babysat by Summer Spellman (played by Matilda Freeman).
When dad Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) returned home, he took his son to hospital and it seemed like it could be a one-off.
However, in recent episodes, Oliver’s condition has worsened with him having multiple fits but with no explanation.
This was until Dr Ward (Zita Sattar) explained to Steve and mum Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) what could be the cause.

Oliver might have a genetic condition called mitochondria disease, which means not enough energy is being produced in cells to keep the body going.
This can affect parts of the body such as the heart, brain, muscles and lungs, as they require the greatest amounts of energy.
More tests are still being carried out on Oliver to confirm if this is the case but on Monday’s (May 25) episode, Steve and Leanne grew more concerned as Oliver wasn’t paying attention to them.
Rather than enjoy playing with his favourite toy car, the three-year-old looked away as if he didn’t understand what was going on, causing Leanne’s boyfriend Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) to get a doctor in a moment of panic.
Will Oliver die in Coronation Street?
Actress Jane Danson who plays Leanne appeared on Loose Women this morning, Wednesday, May 27, to talk about what was happening in Coronation Street.
She initially told the show how she was worried her character was going to be written out of the show, having read future scripts.
Danson said: ‘When you’re in a soap there’s always that fear [of being cut from the show] hanging over you.
“But with this story I was worried in which direction it might go in and how Leanne might cope.”

Danson continued: “I was a little bit concerned, I do know the end game and I know this will change Leanne as a character but hopefully take her in a different direction in the future.”
Could the life-changing event be the death of her son Oliver?
Leanne is the step-mum of Peter Barlow’s (Chris Gascoyne) son Simon (Alex Bain) but they are not related by blood so Oliver is her only biological child.
Steve has two other children, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) and Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell) who he found out was his daughter at the beginning of the year.
