Coronation Street's Alex Mardell walking into a wall during social distanced filming in hilarious soap blunder

CORONATION Street have finally debunked Alexandra Mardell's "walking into a wall blunder", with the scene finally airing last night.

Last month, Phillip Schofield questioned whether the 26-year-old actress had made a gaffe when a sneak peek at the ITV soap's socially distanced filming aired on This Morning.

During Sharon Marshall's soap review, Phillip exclaimed: "I just saw someone walk into a wall", before getting his phone out to replay the suspected error.

And the behind-the-scenes clip was shared again yesterday, with Corrie's official Instagram account posting the video before it aired on the show.

It starts with the director shouting action, with Alex in character as Emma Brooker as she walks down the street while transfixed on her phone.

Dressed in bright pink trousers and a pastel pink jacket, Alex tries to avoid getting too close to the soap crew and other cast members – and eventually walks straight into a low wall.

As Emma, Alex can be heard yelping in pain, while her co-star Sally Dynevor in character as Sally Metcalfe turns around and exclaims: "Ooh! Emma, that must have hurt!"

The social media post was captioned: "We’d like to be able to confirm that no actors were harmed in this scene but we’re not sure if we can!? ?⠀

"@alexandramardell, we hope it didn’t leave a bruise!"

Alex poked fun at herself as she filmed the scene airing on her TV last night, laughing at her "pain" reaction as she joked: "This is one for the showreel", adding a crying-with-laughter emoji.

Fans always suspected that the wall blunder was intentional, with several tweeting Phil last month to point out that she was purposefully glued to her phone.

Another wrote: "Guys!! The person falling over the wall is Emma, played by Alexandra Mardell. She was meant to do that."

A second agreed: "I can’t believe I’m watching, never mind tweeting but you guys are meant to be the experts, so how come I know that Emma walking into the wall is part of the shot on ITV corrie, not a mistake?"

The official This Morning account later admitted it wasn't a blunder, tweeting: "We've been assured that no Corrie character was hurt in the making of this video – Emma, we're looking at you."
