Aadi is one of Coronation Street’s various teenage characters, and the schoolboy has previously taken a backseat in bigger storylines as his twin Asha Alahan (played by Tanisha Gorey) has been heavily involved in some dramatic plots. But the ITV soap is set to see Aadi showing a new side to him as he gets close to fellow Weatherfield resident Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby). But nothing ever runs smoothly on the cobbles, and its likely Summer could end up pregnant.
“Summer has certainly caught his [Aadi’s] attention,” Adam explained. “I reckon they could be a good couple because they’re both smart, sweet and innocent.
“Well, Summer is! Aadi can have a laugh and be a bit mischievous sometimes. But when it comes down to it, he’s just an innocent young boy who has developed feelings for a girl.”
Speaking to Digital Spy about his first year on the show he continued: “It’s been an experience! I’ve learned a lot. I’ve been able to grow as an actor and as a person as well.”
But with the two likely to become embroiled in a bigger story after being in the background for a while, what drama awaits the characters?
Recent scenes have already shown a glimpse of a relationship blossoming between Aadi and Summer.
A sweet conversation with him seemed to come as a welcome escape from Summer’s current struggles as she comes to terms with her diabetes diagnosis.
Worried Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) had been trying to encourage Summer to learn to manage her condition.
“There’s nothing to it unless you’re determined to kick up a fuss,” he told Summer as she tried to learn how to medicate herself.
“I’m not making a fuss,” she argued, as Billy tried to get her to make an appointment with a nurse to learn how to inject herself.
Later, not knowing about Summer’s diagnosis, Aadi invited her to join him for a gathering.
As Summer sat in the café feeling fed up, Aadi seemed to be after an excuse to spark a chat with her.
He said: “You know Gemma, with all the kids, her second name is Winter.”
“So?” Summer replied. “Summer, Winter,” Aadi explained. “Just need Spring and Autumn and you can form a girl group.”
Summer laughed and Aadi went on to ask her to come to an event.
“All the Year 11s are going,” he said. Summer replied: “I’m not in Year 11.”
“Asha’s going, think I might go too,” Aadi responded, clearly wanting Summer to come along.
Fans have been picking up on the potential relationship between the two.
Taking to Twitter, one viewer said: “I low-key think an Aadi, Summer and Amy love triangle would be good #corrie.”
Another wrote: “I want to know how long Aadi was thinking of that line for Summer.”
“Aadi and Summer. I dig. @itvcorrie #Corrie,” a third speculated.
It seems clear there is an attraction between the teenagers, and with Summer being in denial about her condition, she may be looking for more escape from her problems. Aadi could be the answer for her, but with the teenager constantly focusing on her future and hopes for university, it seems these dreams could be dashed by a pregnancy scare.
Summer and Aadi are both usually seen as characters who don’t get into much trouble, but the soap hasn’t shied away from teenage pregnancies before, with Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) involved in a similar story a couple of years ago.
With a closeness now forming between the unlikely pair, could they be caught up in a similar story?
Summer has expressed a determination to leave for university eventually, but with the popular character unlikely to leave Weatherfield, perhaps getting pregnant with Aadi is what keeps her on the cobbles.
Adam took on the role of Dev Alahan’s (Jimmi Harkishin) son in early 2020, taking over from the previous actor Zennon Ditchett.
Talking to the publication about his character being recast, Adam admitted: “I found it a little bit nervous and awkward coming in after replacing someone who had been on the show for so long.
“But after a while, the audience grew to me and I grew more into it as well.”
Could the two work as a couple? They are both more laidback among the younger Coronation Street group, with other teenagers of the cobbles often getting mixed up in dramas.
Summer could also use some happiness after dealing with her unexpected diagnosis and brewing trouble between Todd and Billy.
Aadi might be the distraction she needs and could help her come to terms with her situation.
But will all go smoothly between the two, or will they have to face some obstacles before getting together?
Coronation Street continues on Friday at 7.30pm on ITV.
