Dancing on Ice 2020: Ben Hanlin eliminated as new data exposes disadvantage?

Dancing on Ice will see the remaining six celebrity contestants take to the ice this evening as they battle it out to be one step closer to winning the 2020 series. Ahead of the live show, it seems Ben Hanlin’s fate has already been sealed as new evidence provided by OddsMonkey suggests his popularity has dwindled. Is his time in the competition over?

If there is one contestant who is hoping to impress the judges it’s magician and television presenter Ben.

The ITV2 star is putting his showmanship to the ultimate test as he tries to wow Ashley Banjo, John Barrowman, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

Partnered with professional ice skater Carlotta Edwards, Ben found himself in the bottom two last week and faced the skate-off against Ian ‘H’ Watkins.

Ashley saved Ben based on his performance, while John also chose Ben due to the difficulty of his routine.

Christopher agreed with his fellow judges and said Ben was the “strongest skater” out of the two.

Jayne had the deciding vote of the night and she revealed she would have also saved Ben and Carlotta.

Now, a week later, it seems Ben will find himself skating for his position in the competition once more.

According to data collected exclusively for Express.co.uk by OddsMonkey, Ben’s odds sit at 4/5 to be eliminated next.

When Ben initially signed up to the show, he had 31,759 followers on his official Instagram, which rose to 34,287 in week two, a 7.37 percent increase.

Fast forward to week three, and Ben only managed to scrape a 2.54 percent increase in fans on the social media platform.

This then reduced to 1.85 percent in week four, but he shot up to 2.75 percent Instagram followers increase in week five.

Last week, however, it seems Ben’s luck is on the up as he had a 2.83 percent in people pressing the follow button.

However, there is one other contestant who had a smaller increase in social media followers than Ben and that was Maura Higgins.

The Love Island star had 0.35 percent extra fans, but her following is significantly larger than Ben’s and currently sits at 2,785,858.

A spokesman from the bookmaker said: “Last week Ian Watkins was booted off, with Ben Hanlin and Maura surviving – but the odds suggest it is one of those two next, although magician Ben is seeing bigger increases all the time.

“The person seeing the biggest increase percent wise was yet again Libby Clegg although at just less than 6% it was half what she managed in the previous week.”

It hasn’t been an easy journey to the ice for Ben, having been tipped as an outsider from the very beginning, he also suffered an injury from practice.

Last month, he took to his Instagram stories and told his followers: “We have a problem.I’ve had a big injury, I’ve fallen over, I’ve smashed my ribs and they’re all strapped up, and under that strapping I’ve got more strapping.

“I’ve just been out skating, and I couldn’t do some of the lifts. I couldn’t lift Carlotta because my ribs are doing me in,” despite the injury, Ben thankfully made a full recovery.
