JP Hooper (played by Tobi Bakare) passed his sergeant exams at the end of season nine, achieving the highest score in the history of the exam. However, as season 10 of Death in Paradise fast approaches, new character Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles) is set to cause chaos. When he is taken under JP’s wing, the new sergeant could learn something about his history he wished had been kept a secret.

Season 10 of Death in Paradise will see newcomer Marlon rock up on the island of Saint Marie.

However, the 18-year-old is more used to getting involved in petty crime than being an upright citizen.

This could all be about to change as he finds himself under JP’s watchful eye.

And it might not just be Marlon who crashes into JP’s life, as BBC bosses hinted, there is a lot more to be revealed about the sergeant’s past.

“When Marlon runs into JP, his life takes an unexpected turn and he finds himself looking at a very different future to the one he expected.

“The arrival of twins is the least of JP’s challenges as he finds Marlon – and some shocking developments at work – testing him to his limits,” BBC bosses announced in a recent statement.

They have also said the minute Marlon meets JP, his life takes an unexpected turn, leading him down a path he didn’t think he would ever go down.

But, is Marlon in Saint Marie to make trouble, or could he be sitting on a huge family secret?

After all, why have ‘twins’ been mentioned by the broadcaster? Perhaps JP is to learn he is a father, or in fact a twin himself.

As for why Marlon is making an appearance, his arrival was announced on the back of Ruby Patterson’s (Shyko Amos) exit.

And it seems his time in the police station will test JP’s patience.

But, there could be a much more personal reason Marlon is on the island of Saint Marie.

Marlon could turn out to be related to JP, a brother even, but it’s not known yet how the sergeant will take this news or if JP knew anything about the secret.

JP has always had a huge guard up, and it takes a while for him to drop that icy exterior, so Marlon could change him for better or for worse.

Fans don’t know an awful lot about JP’s history, so this is definitely likely to be explored more in season 10.

Elsewhere on the island of Saint Marie, fans were thrilled when DI Neville star Ralf Little revealed that DS Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert) would be returning.

However, she might not be as ready as she thinks she is to return as she continues to come to terms with the death of her husband.

Desperate to prove she is ready and able to get back to work, it seems Florence could be faced with some demons, having left in the first place to grieve properly.

She could find herself struggling to come to terms with her new reality, but also the chaos that DI Neville radiates.

It seems there could be a few more secrets to be unveiled when the new season airs next year.

Death in Paradise can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.
