Loose Women’s Denise Welch on new diagnosis
On Thursday’s episode of Loose Women, the panel pondered the question “are you embarrassed by your sweat?” while discussing the recent bout of warm, sunny weather, when Denise Welch revealed she had recently been diagnosed with a condition that makes the summer weather even more unbearable.
Host Charlene White outlined while some will be looking forward to barbecues and spending more time outside at the moment, “others will be dreading the heat … specifically people with hyperhidrosis”. She revealed one of the panellists actually suffered from the condition.
Denise told Charlene and her fellow Loose Women stars, Linda Robson and Jane Moore, she had just been diagnosed with the common condition, which causes individuals to sweat excessively.
“I’ve just been diagnosed with it – another osis to have,” Denise joked.
“I don’t exactly know when it started but I think it was menopause and unfortunately I’m on HRT and although HRT worked with the sweats for menopause.
“So, you know those of you who have been through menopause, even if you’re cold the hot flushes come from within. This is not like that,” she concluded.
Charlene declared around two million people in the UK are living with hyperhidrosis.

Excessive sweating can affect the whole body or certain areas and can happen for no obvious reason. While most people will sweat when exercising or if it’s particularly hot, those with the condition will experience this much more frequently, even in cooler weather.
Elsewhere in the episode, Denise explained how she would often have to change her bra twice a day due to excessive sweating.
She also joked about how when people ask to give her a hug, they are taken aback by how hot and sweaty she is.

Charlene then encouraged viewers who may be experiencing the same symptoms to contact their GP for advice.
It is also recommended that those suffering from the condition, wear loose-fitting clothes to minimise the signs of sweating, wear leather shoes and try to wear different shoes each day, as well as wearing socks to absorb any moisture, with socks being changed at least twice a day, if possible.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
