Escape to the Chateau has soared in popularity for the broadcaster since beginning back in 2016. Couple Dick and Angel Strawbridge have given fans an insight into the impressive structure and recently returned for series seven much to the delight of Channel 4 viewers. With the programme becoming surprisingly popular since it has begun, the husband-and-wife duo have now explained why they wanted to get involved with the series, with Angel admitting in a recent interview: “We saw it as an adventure.”
The pair married back in 2015 and have been showing off their beautiful French retreat in recent years.
The popular Channel 4 series follows Dick and Angel transforming the 19th century Chateau de la Motte-Husson in Martigne-sur-Mayenne, France.
Viewers first saw inside the chateau back in 2016 after the pair settled on what home they wanted to restore.
Escape to the Chateau recently returned for its seventh series as fans can continue to follow the duo’s progress.
As they settle into life in France, they explain why they agreed to the programme in the first place.
Dick revealed: “There are certain things in our life that we don’t doubt and any problems we know we can fix. We’ve both got that mindset.”
“We saw it as an adventure and why not? We wanted to create a new life for ourselves and our families,” Angel added.
They also teased what would be coming up in the latest block of episodes, stressing a slightly different focus from the previous series’.
They said it will be focused on “living our dream, as opposed to building.”
Speaking to Hello! they shared: ”The house is evolving and things are being moved around to how they were always meant to be and we have endless outbuildings.”
Fans have praised the new series, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts after it returned earlier this month.
One commented: “I think Dick has given me unrealistic expectations of how good men should be at DIY #EscapeToTheChateau.”

Next weekend’s instalment will see the pair focus on their wash house with the aim of turning it into a glorious eco-friendly bathroom.
However, they soon realise it won’t be as simple as first thought as work begins on the bold new idea.
