It’s a double Casualty night again this week, featuring two very different episodes. The first, Blame Game, focuses heavily on the aftermath of the terrible school shooting last week. There are victims of the attack still being treated on the wards, and the ED staff try to come to terms with what happened.
Most affected, of course, is David Hide (Jason Durr) whose son Ollie (Harry Collett) was one of the shooters – and lost his own life. Dylan (William Beck) calls to see David at the beginning of the episode and is shocked by the state his friend is in. As well as grieving for his dead son, David is trying to fully absorb the reality that the boy he loved so much was capable of being a murderer.
Concerned that David isn’t coping, Dylan begs him to come and stay with him, but David refuses. As Dylan turns away from the house he sees that someone has sprayed the word ‘murderer’ on the outside wall.
As he returns to the ED Dylan tells Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) that death threats have been sent to David via the ED, as people try to lay the blame for the shooting at his door. A lot of people – including Faith – seem to think that David should have known what Ollie was planning.
Meanwhile David is shocked when a brick is thrown through his window, and when he goes outside he’s confronted by an angry mob of people clearly out for revenge. Suddenly David is in deadly danger.
The other big story which runs across both episodes is about Stevie (Elinor Lawless), who has a run-in with an arrogant anaesthetist whom she accuses of incompetence. In the second episode, One In, One Out, Stevie struggles as it’s her late sister’s birthday but tries to put her feelings aside when she’s asked to be in charge of the department for the day.
Another run-in with the arrogant anaesthetist and a clash with another doctor leave Stevie on rocky ground, but she finds solace from an unlikely person.
