Dr. Seuss Adaptation Oh, The Places Youll Go! Finds Director in Jon M. Chu

The ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ filmmaker has reportedly been tapped to sit behind the lens for the upcoming big-screen animated adaptation of the beloved children’s book.

AceShowbiz -“Crazy Rich Asians” director Jon M. Chu has signed on to direct an animated version of classic Dr. Seuss book “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

The 1990 publication was the beloved author’s last, released a year before he lost his battle with cancer, and it is often given as a gift to students graduating from high school and college.

Now, Chu – who has always wanted to oversee an animated production – has been tapped by bosses at Warner Bros. Animation Group to bring the inspiring tale to the big screen. “Star Wars Episodes VII” and “IX” filmmaker J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella, daughter of late British director Anthony Minghella, are on board as producers, according to Deadline.

The film is described as “a globetrotting animated musical following a young adventurer.”

It’s not the only Dr. Seuss book about to become a movie – Warner Bros. officials sealed a deal with estate chiefs in 2018, and previously greenlit two more projects based on other beloved works by the writer – “The Cat in the Hat“, which is due for release in 2024, and “Thing One and Thing Two“.

But fans won’t get to see Chu’s new take for quite a while – “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” is slated for a 2027 release.

The busy director’s next big project will be the “Wicked” movie, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

He previously helmed “In the Heights“, a big-screen adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s stage musical of the same name.
