Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to produce and star in film about pro wrestler Mark Kerr

DWAYNE ‘The Rock’ Johnson is set to produce and star in a movie biopic about pro-wrestler turned MMA and UFC fighter Mark Kerr.

The wrestler/ actor, 47, revealed the news in a surprise press conference at UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden in New York on Friday.

He said:  “Mark Kerr’s story is such an incredible story.

“Like all of us, and like a lot of these fighters, he battled these demons — these demons of addiction, these demons of mental health, these demons of getting out and the pressure of fighting in front of 50,000 people and what that does to somebody.

“Here’s a guy who has gone through it all, hit rock bottom, but the best part about Mark Kerr is that, like all of us in this room and all these fighters, these warriors, is that everyday, we get up and we want to do a little bit better tomorrow than we did today.”

He went on to reveal that Mark is very excited about the project, adding: “He's overwhelmed that this is happening, and I love that he trusts me with his life and with his story.”

Mike Kerr was considered to be the best fighter in the world during his MMA career from 1997 – 2009, as well as being a two-time UFC heavyweight champion.

He was previously the subject of an HBO documentary called The Smashing Machine in 2003, which documented his addiction to painkillers.

Dwayne gained worldwide fame in the WWE before made his first acting appearance in TV show That 70s Show playing his father Rocky in an episode called That Wrestling Show.

After this, he made several TV appearances and made his big screen debut in The Mummy Returns in 2001.

He has since gone on to star in numerous box office hits and still occasionally appears in the ring.
