Eamonn Holmes put Prince Jackson on the spot over his dad Michael Jackson’s reported links to children.
The 23-year-old appeared on This Morning to discuss the charity Heal Los Angeles and his philanthropy, as well as talking about his pride in sharing the same first name as his father – his real name is Michael Joseph Jackson Jr, but he is commonly known as Prince.
However, host Eamonn swiftly turned the conversation to the late Beat It singer.
‘But Michael, you know by being involved with children in your father’s name as well, that’s a controversial issue and a lot of people will be sensitive to that,’ Eamonn asked.
‘At times you must face criticism. How often are you in the position where you feel you have to defend your father?’
Prince, however, steered the conversation back to the charity and the support he has from MJ’s fans.
‘I’m very appreciative of my father’s fans and they’ve just been very supportive of us,’ he said.
‘For me, I’ve been very focused on the Heal Los Angeles endeavour. There’s a lot of people that need help, especially right now with the Covid-19 pandemic going on.
‘There’s a lot of underserved communities that don’t have access to nutrition. There’s a lot of healthcare heroes that we feel are not getting the appreciation they need.’
Prince – who has been working with Heal Los Angeles since his time as a college undergrad at LMU – went on to say that all of his focus has been going into ‘trying to connect with the community’.
Jackson, who died in 2009, was the focus of the documentary Leaving Neverland last year, in which his alleged victims Wade Robson and James Safechuck accused the pop icon of sexual molestation when they were young boys.
Both Robson and Safechuck had denied they had ever been abused by the star in the 1990s, before later filing lawsuits against the Thriller singer in 2013.
Jackson’s family criticised the documentary upon its release, and strenuously denied the allegations that he had ever been inappropriate with children.
