EastEnders Ian Beale star Adam Woodyatt new role confirmed

EastEnders icon Adam Woodyatt is set to return to the stage in a revival of Lerner & Lowe’s My Fair Lady.

The Ian Beale star will be playing the role of Alfred P. Doolittle, the father of central character, Eliza.

In a recent Instagram post, Adam claimed that he is ‘thrilled’ to be taking on the role in the UK and Ireland tour.

Having been a staple figure in Walford since the first episode back in 1985, Ian’s time on Albert Square came to an end in 2021, following the discovery that Sharon (Letitia Dean) had been poisoning him.

Adam is no stranger to treading the boards, having recently appeared alongside Laurie Brett (Jane Beale) in Peter James’ Looking Good Dead, where they had the familiar task of playing husband and wife.

In this production, Adam is teaming up with former Emmerdale star John Middleton, who played beloved vicar Ashley Thomas between 1996 and 2017. The actor will take on the role of Colonel Pickering in the musical.

As Adam takes to the stage once more, it puts a return to EastEnders on the backburner for now.

He’s previously spoken about heading back to Albert Square, recently telling Kate Thornton on her podcast White Wine Question Time: ‘I’m quite happy doing what I’m doing. I haven’t got a clue what’s going to happen.’

This echoed another interview he did on Steph’s Packed Lunch in which he told Steph McGovern, ‘I could go back and I could not go back! I don’t know. The speculation has been hysterical. I think everyone is always going to speculate. But there are no plans at the moment.’
