Long-term EastEnders fans will remember Alfie (played by Shane Richie) and Kat (Jessie Wallace) share a long and dramatic history, but Alfie remains determined to break up Kat and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) so he and Kat can have their happily ever after. Phil has been away recently, and it seems Alfie is taking the opportunity to try to impress Kat. After he helps out Tommy (Sonny Kendall) with something for school, Kat is delighted, and the former Vic landlord’s hopes for a romance with Kat are restored.
In scenes yet to air on the BBC soap, Alfie starts panicking when Kat returns and needs to access Phil’s safe.
Fans know that Alfie was recently held at gunpoint by a man who demanded he open the safe.
The soap favourite is forced to admit to Kat that he lost £30,000 of the money,
A worried Kat piles the pressure on to get it back and Alfie gets his hands on some old electric items to sell, however, his plan backfires.
Kat is annoyed to learn Alfie has been living at number 55 in her absence, but after some convincing from the boys, she lets Alfie stay.
He later starts selling more dodgy products on the market and asks for Kat’s help.
Soon after, the duo is forced to pack up in a rush when Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) arrives.
Despite the hiccup though, Alfie earns a fair amount of money.
Alfie and Kat end up having a meaningful heart-to-heat.
With Phil’s money on his mind, Alfie tells Tommy he can’t help with a school fundraiser, but upon seeing how upset his son is, he changes his mind.
After overhearing a conversation with Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) and Mack Atkins (Isaac Lemonius), they get an idea and tell Kat the exciting news.
Alfie promises Kat his plan is genuine and has nothing to do with Phil’s money.
Kat is left impressed when Alfie rallies volunteers for his fundraising idea, giving Alfie a glimmer of hope for their future.
Kat made it clear to Alfie when he returned nothing would ever happen between the two of them again.
He hadn’t been seen in Walford since 2019 after a dramatic end to his and Kat’s relationship.
Back in September though, he returned on the day of Kat and Phil’s wedding and managed to delay it enough for the service to be cancelled.
Although Kat maintains the two are history, it seems they still share a spark.
Fans seem to believe the famous Walford couple will end up together in the end.
Several viewers have taken to social media to give their opinion recently.
Twitter user SteveStevens47 wrote: “JUST HURRY UP AND GET BACK TOGETHER FFS! #Alfie #Kat #Eastenders.”
@mikepriestley13 penned: “I’m still convinced Kat and Alfie will get back together in the long term #EastEnders.”
“Can Alfie and Kat just get back together already?” @MarkySciFi1980 asked.
@tommitcheall added: “#EastEnders I think Kat and Alfie should get back together sometime down the line they’re meant to be in my opinion.”
@kira_26x shared: “Need Kat and Alfie back together ASAP!! #EastEnders.”
Not all agree though, with @LangneoDM arguing: “I can’t be the only one who finds Kat & Alfie boring together.
“Even if they did get back together, she’ll end up cheating on him again & again smh #EastEnders.” (sic)
If the couple did decide to give their relationship another go, what would this mean for Phil?
The Walford hardman is not one to mess with, and he probably wouldn’t take the news well.
Could the two rekindle their romance behind his back? If so, they are likely in for an explosive storyline.
EastEnders continues on Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC Two.
