EastEnders’ Ben Mitchell (played by Max Bowden) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) got themselves caught up in a dodgy warehouse job tonight and only realised they’d been set up once it was too late. After naively trusting Danny Hardcastle (Paul Usher), the Mitchells found themselves in grave danger but narrowly escaped with their lives and a huge sum of money. However, when Phil realises he may have sacrificed his son’s health, will he turn himself into the police?
Ben was fitted with a hearing aid when he was young to help combat his hearing problem.
But ever since he plunged into the River Thames during the boat party crash, he has struggled to cope with his worsening hearing difficulties.
The Mitchell bad boy has always feared he doesn’t live up to his dad’s ideal and was adamant he could take part in the warehouse job.
However, in tonight’s episode, Phil insisted his son stay behind as he realised how badly his health was impacting him.

As the pair discussed the details for the job, Phil realised Ben couldn’t understand him and would be a liability.
In the special episode, EastEnders fans were given a glimpse into Ben’s life as the instalment was entirely shot from his perspective.
Phil’s fractured words including “access codes” were displayed onscreen as Ben struggled to understand him.
“These are serious people if they find out we’re involved they’ll find us, they’ll kill us,” Phil said.
Phil then realised Ben couldn’t hear but Ben asked: “Just repeat the last bit for me, you’re talking too fast I’ve got to lip read.”
“Ben this is a mistake, how can you cope?” the dodgy dealer remarked.
“I can do this, I’m the muscle here, dad with all due respect you’re an older man I’m much younger much fitter,” Ben hit back.
“If there’s any trouble, if anything goes wrong I’ll sort it,” he added before getting out a gun.

“Whatever it takes,” Ben said. “Dad I’m still the same man, I just can’t hear that’s it, let’s go through the plans again.”
Phil refused to listen and banned his son from joining him on the job telling him to think about his daughter Lexi.
However, Danny tricked Ben into coming along by secretly signalling him to join just as he and Phil were getting ready to leave the Square.
When Ben arrived at the warehouse he realised something wasn’t right but was spotted and led to Danny at gunpoint.
Danny used Ben’s gun against him by releasing a shot right by his head and damaging his hearing further.

When a fight broke out, Phil and Ben managed to escape but it was clear the lasting effects of the gunshot would be serious for Ben.
After driving away with a large sum of cash, Phil turned to his son to check on him but Ben brushed off his concerns before viewers watched him hold back tears.
Phil was to blame for the boat party crash and now his decision to trust Danny has further harmed his son.
If Ben is told the hearing damage he sustained is irreversible, will his guilt lead him to turn himself in to the police just like he did for Dennis Rickman (Bleu Landau)?
EastEnders continues Tuesday on BBC One at 7.30pm.
