Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) is hoping that Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) will flee with him as the truth of his crimes are exposed in EastEnders – but he is left in shock when he stands up to her.
Gray has been exerting his control over Chelsea since the birth of their baby Jordan and, despite knowing what happened to Chantelle, she has been manipulated by Gray.
As Chantelle and Tina’s murders come to light, Gray knows the time is up and banks on Chelsea starting a new life with him.
But thinks don’t go as he planned.
Toby explained: ‘Chelsea confronts Gray about the past and wants the truth about all these allegations that Whitney has told her. Gray just wants to run away with her and is trying to gain Chelsea’s trust.
‘I don’t think that he was expecting her to have the guts to confront him. He knows that Chelsea is strong but to just come out with it and ask him about his deepest and darkest secret he is quite surprised at that.
‘If she can still love and trust Gray after finding out what the secret is, essentially he knows that she is on his side, and he can try and manipulate her more.’
But that isn’t the case and he resorts to kidnapping Jordan, which leaves Chelsea in a panic.
His options having run out, Gray faces the end of the line but the actor enthused that he has loved working with Zaraah as well as Shona McGarty, who plays Whitney.
He smiled: ‘It has been an absolute pleasure, the two of them are absolute powerhouses. It has been so much fun and a lot of hard work.
‘The dynamic’s brilliant between the three of us, I’ve loved working with both of them.
‘We have all taken this storyline so seriously, but between scenes or off set we can have a real laugh with each other. It’s a lot of fun, and I have loved it.’
