Emmerdale fans devastated as soap shuts down amid Coronavirus pandemic

Emmerdale has been forced to shutdown production amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

Although both Emmerdale and Coronation Street announced last week that — while cutting their weekly episodic output — the aim was for both soaps to continue filming.

However, a new statement reads: ‘ITV has sadly taken the decision to suspend soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale with effect from 23 March.’

‘We’ve been doing our best to carry on filming, whilst admiring to the government’s latest health guidelines, to ensure episodes of both soaps airing on ITV until at least the early summer.’

However, the health and well-being of the production teams, actors, crew and their families is of paramount importance to us, and we now feel that the time has come to stop filming.’

We’d like to thank our viewers for their support, and hope they continue to enjoy both soaps in the coming months.’

Emmerdale fans were quick to commend the soap for making this decision, although they were naturally upset at the thought of their favourite soap no longer being on the air for some time.
