What’s the history between Charles and Manpreet in Emmerdale?
Emmerdale spoilers have revealed that Charles will address Manpreet by a different name next week when they finally come face to face in the village.
Charles will refer to Manpreet as Saira and announce that he thought she was dead.
Speaking about the storyline, Kevin Mathurin – who plays Charles – confirmed that Manpreet and Charles were together before she disappeared and faked her own death 15 years ago.
He told the media: "Let's just say that Charles and Manpreet do have a history. When Charles sees Manpreet, it's like seeing a ghost and it's very unexpected. Out of all the places in the country – all of the different parishes that Charles has been working in – he now finds this person who he hasn't seen for 15 years.
"They're both absolutely shocked. As far as Charles is concerned, Manpreet was dead.”
He continued: "Afterwards, Charles just wants an explanation for what has been going on and where Manpreet has been. He wants to know why Manpreet suddenly disappeared.
"There's going to be some revelations. Let's just say Manpreet isn't exactly who Charles thought she was. He knows her as 'Saira', so for her to suddenly say that her real name is Manpreet, he wonders what other lies she has been telling him. There's a lot of past to be dug up.
But with Emmerdale keeping plot details hidden, viewers will have to tune in to find out why Manpreet faked her death and changed her identity.
Will Charles expose Manpreet as a fake in Emmerdale?
Speaking about how he doesn’t want the truth to come out, but will have to tell son Ethan before he discovers it for himself, Kevin added: "Charles doesn't want to ruffle any feathers and he doesn't want the village to know his business, but one person he thinks needs to know the truth is his son. Ethan knew Manpreet as Saira as well when he was a young child."
Adding that Ethan considered Manpreet to be his mother before she vanished, Kevin added: "Charles feels like he needs to let Ethan know that he's found her, because Ethan was traumatised by this whole ordeal. He was very young, but he was old enough to know that this person – who was really important in their lives – had gone missing.
"It took a lot for Charles to look after him, protect him and raise him through this trauma. Ethan is his priority and he needs to know."
What has Emile John said about the Manpreet storyline in Emmerdale?
Actor Emile John, who plays Charles’ son Ethan, revealed: "Ethan is aware of the connection between Charles and Manpreet. They both have a history with her. All of the trauma and pain that Ethan has had to endure from not one absent mother but two, is all going to come flooding back to him.
Hinting at a furious showdown between Ethan and Manpreet, he continued: "He's going to have to tell Manpreet exactly how he feels in order to relinquish some of that pain.
“Ethan isn't one to keep a lid on things. He's going to need to say exactly how he feels and I think he probably will."
