John Barton died in a car crash, James Barton died by falling onto a motorway, Finn Barton died by being shot and Emma Barton died by being pushed off a bridge so Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan) should count his lucky stars that he is being given more of a low key goodbye in comparison. At least he survives his stint in Emmerdale.
After several years of dramatic storylines in the show including his crush on Moira (Natalie J Robb), his rivalry with brother Ross (Mike Parr), being cheated on by Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb) and a short lived relationship with Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry), Pete is heading off for pastures new.
He had initially wanted to take on a fresh business challenge with Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) on Wylie’s Farm but eventually reaches the decision to depart the village for a new life – and emotional scenes see him waved off by friends and loved ones as he leaves a village which haunts him with many bad memories.
He will star in short film Asphixiate alongside Michaela Longden who wrote and co-produced the film.
Confirming his new role, Anthony wrote on Instagram: ‘Scene rehearsal of @asphyxiateshortfilm starring myself and the incredibly talented @kaylaginge who also wrote and co-produced this fine piece of film.’
Amid Pete’s exit, there is drama elsewhere for the Bartons as Moira is forced to take drastic action. Is she about to strike again as Matty (Ash Palmisciano) finds himself surrounded by a threatening gang and Moira locks and loads with a shotgun?
The drama starts when Matty struggles to run the farm on his own and a concerned Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) asks Sam (James Hooton) to step in and give him a helping hand as there has been talk of rustlers in the area.
The rustlers soon surround Matty – but Moira is not to be messed with….
