For the last few weeks, Vanessa and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) have been at odds with one another as the latter tries to come to terms with the possibility of losing the one she loves.

During a recent instalment of the popular ITV soap however, those watching at home saw Charity and Vanessa finally make amends.

And a big decision was made which will affect theirs and their children lives forever.

Vanessa had been looking into sorting the legalities of her life should she not beat cancer, and when she brought up the idea of who Johnny’s legal guardian should be, Charity’s reaction was one she was hoping for.

Charity was in fact unable to fathom a life without Vanessa that it came across as if she didn’t want to have to deal with Johnny during a time of grief should she lose her partner.

Therefore, Vanessa asked best friend Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) if she would like to be her son, Johnny’s legal guardian.

But, Charity was hurt she wasn’t asked and was left thinking her partner didn’t trust her with Johnny.

A few days later the misunderstanding was cleared up and following a long conversation about how their future may turn out to be, Vanessa asked Charity to adopt Johnny instead.

In upcoming scenes, Charity is going to start the ball rolling with the legal process.

But it seems it isn’t going to be as straight foward as she would’ve hoped for.

The actress who plays Vanessa spoke out about how Charity has changed and adapted to this unusual situation.

During a conversation with Metro.co.uk, Michelle said: “The way Vanessa is preparing things for the future regarding her son incase anything should happen to her shows such strength in my opinion – it’s a very practical way of dealing with an important issue.

“I do believe that Vanessa thinks Charity will be a good influence on Johnnys life if something were to happen to her.

“Charity has come a long way in these last few years and Vanessa knows she wouldn’t let her down regarding her son,” she added.

And it seems Michelle may have predicted the outcome of the storyline.

She said: “Vanessa and Charity have been through so much already and come through the other side and I don’t think this will be any different.”
