Emmerdale viewers have recently seen the return of Bernice Blackstock (played by Samantha Giles) as she’s come back to the Dales after living away in Australia for a number of years. However, it seems Bernice could be back to cause trouble between Dr Liam Cavanagh (played by Jonny McPherson) and Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) after the pair recently got engaged. After seeing Bernice cause a rift between the pair on Monday night’s episode, fans are left wondering about the fate of Liam and Leyla’s wedding.
Back in 2019 Bernice left Emmerdale for Australia when Dee Dee’s (Mia Gibson-Reed) father ended up in a car accident.
Liam, who was engaged to Bernice at the time, struggled with the distance and began growing close to Leyla.
Eventually beautician Bernice called off their relationship, but now she’s back in the village could she attempt to win Liam back?
In Monday night’s episode fans saw Bernice teasing the newly engaged couple.
Bernice began: “No offence, I would never have put you two together. I mean what’s the saying? Chalk and cheese!”
Liam nodded, saying: “I’m definitely the chalk in that scenario.”
“Does that make me cheese?” Leyla asked, with Liam quickly adding: “I love cheese.”
“Yes, I remember. Big fan of, what was it called? Stinking Bishop. I hope that doesn’t make you stinking Leyla!” Bernice joked as she burst out laughing.
“Definitely not no. She smells beautiful like a rose,” Liam said quickly.
Later on Leyla fumed at Liam about what Bernice had said to them in the pub.
Leyla began: “You know this is how it’s going to be from now on don’t you?
“She is the very annoying fly in the ointment and I like my ointment Liam. I don’t want a fly in it. Especially not one that’s your ex,” she raged.
Liam quickly attempted to reassure his fiancée saying: “Okay let’s just try and calm down.”
“Stinking Leyla! Did you hear that?” Leyla asked Liam, making her outrage clear.
“Yes, I think she was just trying to make a joke,” the doctor explained.
“A joke?” Leyla asked angrily, with Liam adding: “Which wasn’t remotely funny. Australians eh?”
Leyla once again hit back, saying: “You better not be defending her.”
But, Liam quickly batted away her suggestion, saying: “Absolutely not.”
“I knew this was going to happen. Didn’t I say this was going to happen?” Leyla asked.
“Yes, a few times. But it’s not going to happen because I am marrying you. You are the only woman I want,” Liam explained.
After once again running over what Bernice had said to her earlier, Leyla expressed her disbelief at the situation.
“I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it was happening. I mean why couldn’t she just have stayed where she was? Out of sight, out of mind and out of your life!” Leyla vented.
After seeing the couple argue on Monday night’s episode, many fans are wondering about the future of Liam and Leyla.
If Bernice continues to stir things up between Leyla and Liam it could cause an even bigger row before the wedding.
Will Liam stand up to Bernice? Or could Leyla end up leaving him at the altar? Soap fans will have to tune in to find out their fate.
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
