Liam Cavanagh (played by Johnny McPherson) felt confident in his decision to end his budding romance with Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) after an emotional heart-to-heart with his daughter, Leanna Cavanagh (Mimi Slinger). The doctor realised he hadn’t been putting his daughter first and realised he needed to focus on their relationship before he could move on romantically. But a heartbreaking revelation could lead to the doctor deciding it’s best for him to leave Emmerdale for good.
Last year, Liam was devastated when Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles) called off their wedding after learning the father of her daughter had been involved in a serious collision.
Bernice realised she needed to be there for her daughter and left for Australia to be by her side.
While Liam tried to keep his relationship alive, Leyla developed feelings for the doctor and was stunned when she realised he felt the same.
When the doctor confessed to Bernice he’d shared a kiss with Leyla, she dumped him but the pair’s romance hit a few more bumps in the road.

Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) and Leanna decide to make their romance exclusive but soon realise their parents are miserable.
When Liam arrives back from a murder mystery retreat, Leanna realises how low her dad is feeling.
