It was the morning after the night before for Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) on Emmerdale in Tuesday (June 13)’s episode.
In the previous episode we saw him and Chloe (Jessie Elland) getting closer after they’d enjoyed a nice day out, and this led to them heading upstairs together.
But while Chloe should have been uppermost in his mind as a result, the next morning saw him slumped on the sofa thumbing through pictures of him and Charity (Emma Atkins) on his phone.
It was obvious that his heart is still with Charity and he was feeling more than a bit guilty. Again.
Perhaps he was thinking about once again telling Chloe that he wasn’t over Charity and they should just be friends and loving parents to Reuben. She even gave him the opportunity to do so, telling him that last night had been ‘weird.’
His reply was surprising. He said he thought it had been ‘nice’ and that he thought ‘we could really have something here.’
What about Charity, and all the other people who thought they shouldn’t be together? Chloe asked him.

He took her hand. ’All I care about is you, me and Reuben,’ he insisted. ‘No one else matters.’
It could be that he was deciding to put Charity behind him as he was looking at the pictures and has decided to make a firm commitment to Chloe, but we know from past experience that Mack is a weak-willed character who is easily swayed by the moment. That’s why he slept with Chloe in the first place after he and Charity had had an argument.
Chloe looked delighted – but is Mackenzie being honest with her, and with himself, given that he was only moments before looking at photos of the woman he only married a few weeks ago?
‘Mack and Chloe definitely have been getting closer over the last couple of weeks. I think he definitely still has feelings for Charity – they were only married a few months ago!
I do think he’s harbouring feelings for both women, it will just depend on how he deals with them and indeed whether those feelings are reciprocated,’ Lawrence Robb told us.
Also during this episode we saw Charity and Caleb (William Ash) getting together in a moment of passion as they bonded over being the outcasts of the village. When Mack discovers that, how will he feel?
‘He can’t really complain too much about the act itself, he hasn’t been an angel either,’ Lawrence admitted. ‘But I think it’s more the fact that it is Caleb who Charity chooses to sleep with.
Mackenzie hates Caleb, he’s never liked him. So ultimately, I think that’s the most hurtful thing for him.’
We know that Caleb is soon to meet a mystery attacker who will push him off a ridge. Could that mystery attacker be Mackenzie, enraged because of Charity? Lawrence was keeping his cards close to his chest on that one.
‘Mackenzie definitely wants bad things to happen to Caleb. When things inevitably go wrong for Caleb, I’m not saying whether Mack will have a hand in it, but I’m sure he’ll be able to attest to the reasoning behind it.’
