Emmerdale spoilers: Rhona Goskirk takes control of Vanessa’s future after worrying news

Emmerdale viewers saw Vanessa (played by Michelle Hardwick) start her chemotherapy earlier this month on the ITV soap. She has vowed to not let the illness stop her from enjoying her life and tonight saw her go against partner Charity’s (Emma Atkins) wishes by going out and celebrating Rhona’s (Zoe Henry) birthday and having one too many drinks. Now, after a huge row with Charity, could Vanessa decide to move in with Rhona and give her partner a break?

Vanessa has had a difficult few months in the Dales after evil Rhona’s evil ex-husband, Pierce Harris (Jonathan Wrather), was back for revenge.

The villain had already murdered Rhona’s partner Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) just before the couple were about to move to France.

However, with this not enough to satisfy his sinister desires, he decided to hold Vanessa hostage along with her young son Johnny.

Luckily, she was found and was safe and well and things slowly managed to get back to normal.

However, Vanessa was dealt a new blow when she was diagnosed with bowel cancer and had to undergo an operation.

Despite the surgery being a success, she was told she would have to undergo a round of chemotherapy to keep the cancer from spreading any further than her lymph nodes.

Now, as Charity continues to be the all-doting fiancée and incredibly protective of her partner, tonight saw Vanessa go against her wishes.

The episode saw Vanessa’s best pal Rhona celebrate her birthday and she paid the couple a visit to see how they were.

Vanessa asked her: “Are we just ignoring the fact it’s your birthday? It’s in the drawer at work!”

Rhona admitted she thought everyone had forgotten before Vanesa dragged her to the surgery to go and retrieve the gift.

Vanessa assured Charity she would be back soon but she didn’t keep to her promise as she was determined to enjoy the day.

Rhona told her: “You know, you really shouldn’t have bothered… with everything you’ve got going on.”

Vanessa insisted: “I’ve had them [the presents] for ages, and anyway – why should being ill stop us from celebrating?”

Having had enough, Charity asked Vanessa: “That’s how you’re going to play it then is it? Fine – see how you cope without me.”

Charity stormed out the door after it seemed Vanessa had gone one step too far – could this lead to her moving in with her best friend?

Rhona will surely feel like she should be helping out in any way she can after realising how much Vanessa is struggling.

Could she also provide a lifeline to Charity, who is increasingly unable to juggle her work with Vanessa’s newfound illness?

With Rhona now with much more free time due to her new role on Butlers, will she ask Vanessa to come and stay with her?

Emmerdale continues on Friday at 7pm on ITV
