Emmerdale's Jay Kontzle signs new deal to keep Billy Fletcher in the village for another year

JAY Kontzle has signed a new Emmerdale contract to keep him on the soap for another year.

The actor – who plays Billy Fletcher in the ITV soap – put pen to paper on a deal earlier this year that will ensure he remains in the village long into 2020.

A source said: "Jay has been a huge hit with viewers since joining the show and bosses were keen to make sure he sticks around."

Billy was recently left alone in the village after his mum Jessie fled for a new life in Dubai and his brother Ellis was written out over actor Asan N'Jie's off-screen behaviour.

However, Ellis is set to make a bombshell return later this month just in time to stop a brutal fight breaking out between Jay and evil Al Chapman.

The businessman's dodgy dealings have come under scrutiny after Al tried to trick Ellis into giving him all his money to prop him up.

Instead Billy found out and faced-off against his stepdad to protect Ellis while he's away.

The confrontation will see Ellis make an unannounced return with a brand new face.

Actor Aaron Anthony took over from disgraced star Asan after bosses decided to recast the character.

The actor has previously starred in Delicious, Doctors, The Other One and Behind Her Eyes.

* Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV at 7pm with an extra episode on Thursdays at 8pm
