Emmerdale’s Reece ’embarrassed’ Michelle Keegan after making comment to his wife

Emmerdale star Reece Dinsdale has seen his fair share of dramatic storylines having acted in dozens of TV dramas over the last four decades.

However, it's hard to imagine that any storylines could be quite as nail-biting as his final demise in both Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

In 2009 though, Reece revealed that he may not have even made it to the cobbled streets if it had not been for Michelle Keegan.

Reece, who landed the role of Joe McIntyre in 2008, said he only accepted the part because he was utterly blown away by her acting skills while watching her on TV at home.

According to Reece, he was watching the soap with his wife while praising Michelle's acting skills and in a weird twist of fate the very next day he got a call asking if he'd like to be Michelle’s on-screen father.

"My reason for joining was 90 per cent because of Michelle,” he told the Daily Record in 2009.

“I was watching the show one night and I saw her. I turned to my wife and said, 'That girl is brilliant'.

"The next day my agent rang and asked if I fancied playing Tina's dad – it was meant to be.”

Although this did mean things got a bit awkward when Reece revealed the story of how he got on the soap to Michelle.

"From the start, we got on very well. I told her that tale and think I embarrassed her,” he admitted.

“But we're good mates. She's a lovely girl and a talented actress. I wish her all the success."

The pair developed a strong on-screen relationship during their two years together on the show, but it came to a dramatic end.

In 2010, the star decided to walk away from Corrie and his character was killed off.

And not one to disappoint Reece also went out in a literal blaze of glory in Thursday night’s Emmerdale when his abusive character was caught in a barn explosion.

His character Paul Ashdale met a grisly end when Jimmy King crashed his van into the barn, leaving him trapped under rubble when it went up in flames.

Reece believes his Emmerdale exit was even better than Joe’s drowning on Coronation Street.

Asked if he was glad he "went out with a bang", Reece replied: "Definitely."
