Escape to The Chateau is over after nine series

Dick and Angel Strawbridge have revealed Escape to the Chateau will come to an end after nine seasons.

The hit Channel 4 show followed the former Lieutenant Colonel and Angel as they renovated an idyllic chateau nestled in the French countryside.

Launching in 2016, the programme charted the ups and downs of the renovation of the ruined property located in the small market town of Martigné-sur-Mayenne.

The couple had initially paid £280,000 when they bought the dilapidated castle, which has 45 bedrooms, 78 windows, 12 acres and one moat, back in 2015.

However, in a recent newsletter from Dick and Angel, which announced the ninth season would be ‘starting soon in the UK’, the headline was ‘The Ninth and Final Series of Escape to the Chateau.’

A statement from Two Rivers Media, the production company behind Escape to the Chateau, also confirmed the programme’s conclusion, but teased there was more to come.

Instead, the duo will be focusing on a new show called Secret France (working title), although details are being kept under wraps.

The statement said: ‘The 2022 season will be packed with more heart-warming family adventures, innovative renovations and spectacular celebrations from Dick and Angel and their children Arthur and Dorothy.

‘But this year will also have special significance for, whilst it is not goodbye, it will be au revoir from the Chateau, because 2023 will see Dick and Angel focusing on their Secret France (wt) adventures.’

Dick and Angel promised there would also be ‘so much to see and so much more fun to be had’, while thanking all fans who had supported them.

They added: ‘Escape to the Chateau has been our family journey; our decision to buy a Chateau with no water, electricity, heating or sewage has taken us on an adventure of a lifetime and we could never have imagined what would unfold.

‘The good, the bad and the ugly…we have cherished every second and love that we have a visual record to show Arthur and Dorothy when they’re older.’
