The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has run into a production delay.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is growing even larger in Phase 4. Even as Avengers: Endgame took several marquee heroes off the board, the future is very bright. In addition to new characters like Shang-Chi joining the movies, the MCU is bringing heroes like Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk to the small screen over on Disney+.
The streaming service is preparing to take on a major segment of the franchise. And fans are eagerly awaiting to see how these upcoming shows will work in tandem with the films. Due to larger, real-life concerns, however, Marvel Studios’ plans have been temporarily delayed.
Marvel Studios is about to expand into Disney+
Spider-Man: Far from Home reckoned with the fallout of the climactic events in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Likewise, many of the Disney+ shows will use Avengers: Endgame as a jumping-off point. After all, the lives of the MCU’s many heroes have all been irrevocably changed by the two-part Thanos-centric epic.
So, before Disney+ gets to the likes of Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk, the first batch of shows is building on several key supporting players. Loki, for instance, picks up the character’s (Tom Hiddleston) journey from the botched attempt to retrieve the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. And WandaVision follows Scarlet Witch’s (Elizabeth Olsen) developing powers and her relationship with Vision (Paul Bettany).
But perhaps the most anticipated Disney+ Marvel show is Falcon and the Winter Soldier. As fans discovered in Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) hand-picked Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) to succeed him as Captain America. And Marvel devotees are excited to see how he makes that transition, presumably with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) by his side and Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl) back to cause trouble.
‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ shuts down
Yet, because of the global concern over the coronavirus, Marvel has shut down production on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Deadline reports. The series is already midway through production and was filming in Prague when the decision was made. The local government had already decided to close schools and put other restrictions in place accordingly.
Most of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier filmed in Atlanta over the past few months. And the series — which previously canceled a planned shoot in Puerto Rico due to an earthquake — was only scheduled to be in Prague for a week or so. However, with the limitations placed on the area, the cast and crew are now returning to Atlanta earlier than anticipated.

Will the show’s premiere be pushed back?
At the moment, it’s unclear whether the Marvel series will simply reschedule its visit to Prague. But seeing as Disney probably wants to stick to its announced release date, we’re betting the production will work around it. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is expected to arrive on Disney+ sometime in August.
Thankfully for the production, the show wasn’t going to be in Prague too long. So hopefully, the show can either green-screen the environments in some of those scenes or determine another location where filming can move instead. Either way, fans shouldn’t worry just yet that Marvel Studios’ first Disney+ series will face any significant delays.
If there’s one thing we know about Disney, it’s how determined the studio is to hit its anticipated release dates. If the situation with coronavirus develops, this could change. But as of right now, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier should be able to remain largely on schedule.
