MURDER House Flip, a new reality series, will feature the home revamp of former Jaws child star Judith Barsi, who was brutally slain by her father.
The family who live in the house say they’ve felt “a dark presence” since moving in and have experienced strange activity, including the garage door opening and closing on its own, as well as random cold spots throughout the property.
It sounds like a plot from a horror film. A family moves into a beautiful new home but strange things start to happen and then they discover that it was the scene of a grisly murder.
But this is the reality for the Bernal family, who moved into their home 19 years ago, and had no idea it was the site of a double homicide and suicide just 13 years prior.
In 1988, Judith Barsi and her mother were shot to death by Jozsef Barsi, her father, before soaking their bodies in gasoline, setting them on fire and fatally shooting himself in the garage.
Judith starred in 1987's "Jaws IV: The Revenge" and had also previously appeared in the 1984 TV movie “Fatal Vision,” in which her character was slain by her father, a Green Beret.
In 2001, the Bernal family moved into the home in Canoga Park, California. Gaby Bernal, who was just 10 years old at the time, still sleeps in the room believed to be where Judith was murdered.
The family are now appearing on a new reality TV series titled “Murder House Flip,” which will see families teamed up with designers, paranormal experts, and other real estate pros to completely transform the former homes of notorious murder victims.
Speaking about her home, Gaby said: “When we first moved in we didn’t know anything about the house.”
Eventually a neighbor told them about the sinister past.
"The night that he did it, he came home drunk,” says Gaby. "His wife was trying to divorce him at the time and take the little girl with her. She was like the money maker. If he can't have her, no one can."
"They died with so much anger, maybe that's still here," she mused, while her father, Francisco, added, "The house had the bad energy when we moved in."
The family insist they have felt “a dark presence” in the house since moving in and have experienced strange activity.
Speaking to TooFab, Gaby added that she can’t sleep facing her bedroom window as that was the way Judith was when she was shot in the head.
Gaby’s mother also admitted she hears footsteps in the house, while her father said he feels "like someone is behind [him]" when he walks down the hallway.
Murder House Flip is currently streaming on Quibi.
