The ‘Blade Runner 2049’ actor sparks speculations that he would be joining the cast of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ after he recently met up with the ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ director.
AceShowbiz -Could Ryan Gosling be the next A-list star who joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Speculations have run wild that the Canadian actor might be recruited for “Thor: Love and Thunder” after he was spotted meeting up with director Taika Waititi.
On Friday afternoon, August 16, the “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” star and the New Zealand-born filmmaker were pictured having a lunch together in Los Angeles. On the same day, the “Thor: Ragnarok” director was celebrating his 44th birthday.
Fans have since expressed their excitement that Gosling might star in “Thor 4”. “OH MY GOD BOOKED AND BUSY,” one enthused. Another gave her/his seal of approval to the 38-year-old actor starring in the upcoming movie, simply writing, “oh god YES.”
Not all, however, were amused by the idea that Gosling might join the “Thor” franchise. Those who disagreed wrote things like, “Please don’t be in Thor,” “No Thor!!” and “Please not for thor please.” Another warned the actor, “No, Ryan don’t do it.”
Some others think that Gosling and Waititi might be talking about another project during their meeting. “Don’t worry, Taika has another film scheduled to come out before Thor. It’s most likely for that,” one calmed down the objecters. Another speculated about a film that they might be discussing besides “Thor 4”, “Akira???????? Maybe. Gosling is definitely a favorite of mine.”
Waititi has been long-attached to a live-action adaptation of “Akira”, but the project has been put on hold indefinitely as the helmer will reportedly work on “Thor 4” first. The “Jojo Rabbit” helmer confirmed his return for the fourth installment of the superhero film franchise in July.
It was later announced at Comic-Con in San Diego that the movie titled “Thor: Love and Thunder” would bring back Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, who will be featured as the female Thor. Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson will also reprise their roles as Thor and Valkyrie, respectively.
“The story line is incredible, is full emotion, love and thunder and introduces for the first time, female Thor,” Waititi revealed. Thompson, meanwhile, teased that the movie would address her character’s sexuality as bisexual or lesbian like in the comic books. “As new king (of Asgard), she needs to find her queen,” she said. “That will be the first order of business.”
The movie is scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on November 5, 2021.
