Emmerdale might be a tiny village nestled in the Yorkshire Dales, but it has always been full of big personalities who have been at the centre of major storylines throughout the years.
Some characters are best known by ITV soap fans for being village villains, while others are celebrated for having hearts of gold.
Express.co.uk has compiled a personality quiz which will tell you which character you are most familiar with.
Could you be similar to Emmerdale’s craftiest businesswoman Kim Tate or as caring as Laurel Thomas?
Perhaps your personality is as loveable as chef Marlon Dingle’s – or you might be a match will village hard man Cain Dingle.
Kim Tate
Emmerdale legend Kim Tate is played by actress Claire King who has been on and off the soap since the 1980s.
The shrewd businesswoman is not afraid to speak her mind and has never backed down in front of intimidating characters who have tried to tear her down over the decades.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Claire shared: “Kim’s like Marmite – you either love her or you hate her. Or you love to hate her!
“When I came back four years ago, there was a whole generation who didn’t know Kim, so you have to overcome that.”

Laurel Thomas, played by Charlotte Bellamy, has been on the ITV soap since the early 2000s and her character recently married Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson).
Charlotte has starred in more than 2,000 episodes of Emmerdale and is known for having a thoughtful and caring attitude towards others.
This became evident when she took Marshall Hamston (Max Fletcher) under her wing when his father rejected him for being gay.
Marshall left the soap this summer, but he didn’t exit the Dales without giving Laurel a huge hug to thank her for her kindness.
Marlon Dingle
Marlon Dingle, played by Mark Charnock, has been an integral character in Emmerdale for decades.
The chef has been through a difficult time in recent years after suffering from a stroke in 2022. Luckily, his wife Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) has been by his side throughout his recovery and he is very clearly appreciative.
He told Express.co.uk: “The pace of recovery can vary massively. I don’t know where he’s going to be in a few months’ time, but that’s what’s great about it.
“Every time you get a script, you see little differences that they’re starting to put in. Obviously, I’ve had conversations about where he might be in a few months’ time, but they want to take their time with it. It’s important that they don’t rush it.”
Cain Dingle
Jeff Hordley has been a fan favourite for decades as he’s played village bad boy Cain Dingle on and off for 22 years.
He’s been part of some major storylines, including discovering his uncle was actually his father and covering for his son after the 10-year-old shot dead his enemy Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) last year.
At present, the character has been away from the village with his brother Caleb Milligan (Will Ash) but fans are desperate to know what the pair are up to. Could they be up to no good?
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
