First look as John Bishop joins Jodie Whittaker in Doctor Who as companion Dan

Doctor Who has got a new companion, and a first picture from the show has been released of Jodie Whittaker's new sidekick.

She'll be joined in the show by comedian turned actor, John Bishop, who plays Dan.

The Liverpudlian, 54, is excited to say the least about joining the iconic show for the 13th series.

John was first introduced to Whovians everywhere at the end of the Doctor Who festive special, Revolution of the Daleks.

He said: “If I could tell my younger self that one day I would be asked to step on board the Tardis, I’d never have believed it.

“It’s an absolute dream come true to be joining Doctor Who and I couldn’t wish for better company than Jodie and Mandip.”

Meanwhile, show boss Chris Chibnall said: “Our conversations started with John even before the pandemic hit. The character of Dan was built for him, and it’s a joy to have him aboard the Tardis.”

The sneak peek pic features John standing alongside Jodie and Mandip Gill, who plays Yasmin Khan.

John isn't the only new addition to the show, as rumours about a Game Of Thrones actor have also been swirling.

He appears in a new press picture, so it seems there may be a grain of truth to the suspicions.

Fans may recognise him from his role as Grey Worm in Game Of Thrones, but he also makes music under the name Raleigh Ritchie.

Doctor Who fans are also wondering whether the rumours are true that Jodie Whittaker will be leaving the show.

Chatter started after the artwork for the Doctor Who annual for 2022 was released, without Jodie on the cover.

It's the first time in the show's history that the annual hasn't featured a picture of the current Time Lord.
