First look at Lisa Kudrow and Steve Carell in new Netflix comedy Space Force

NETFLIX has given fans their first look at Lisa Kudrow and Steve Carell in new comedy Space Force.

Former Friends star Lisa, 56, has joined the cast as recurring character Maggie Naird, the wife of Steve's  General Mark R. Naird.

Maggie is a Washington Air Force wife who has sublimated parts of herself to her husband’s career for two decades.

But as he takes on his biggest challenge, she is growing in a different direction.

A decorated pilot with dreams of running the Air Force, four-star general Mark is thrown for a loop when he finds himself tapped to lead the newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces: Space Force.

Skeptical but dedicated, Mark uproots his family and moves to a remote base in Colorado where he and a colourful team of scientists and “Spacemen” are tasked by the White House with getting American boots on the moon in a hurry and achieving total space dominance.

The series is a new kind of workplace comedy, where the stakes are sky high and the ambitions even higher

Steve, 57, is also a co-creator on the show alongside the US version of The Office's Greg Daniels.

The show also stars John Malkovich, Diana Silvers, Tawny Newsome and Ben Schwartz.

Jimmy O. Yang, Noah Emmerich, Alex Sparrow and Don Lake are also in the cast.

Space Force is in stark contrast with Steve's most recent project, The Morning Show for Apple TV.

In the drama, which also stars Lisa's former Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston, Steve plays Mitch Kessler, a morning TV news anchor who is fired amid a sexual misconduct scandal.

Meanwhile Lisa most recently had a guest role in the final season of The Good Place.

Space Force premieres on Netflix on May 29.
