Emmerdale: Caleb tells Leyla he has children
When Caleb Miligan (played by Will Ash) first arrived in ITV’s Emmerdale he roused viewers’ suspicions. Introduced as Cain Dingle’s (Jeff Hordley) half-brother, his intentions were not clear at first. However, fans have now discovered his father was Frank Tate (Norman Clifford Bowler), as Caleb was seen visiting his grave.
What happened to Frank Tate?
Frank made his first appearance on the soap in 1989 and was a regular character for eight years.
After actor Bowler decided to leave in 1996, his character left the show the following year.
He was an original patriarch of the Tate family, having been married to Kim Tate (Claire King).
One of his biggest storylines was his divorce and remarriage to Kim before dying from a heart attack.
He suddenly fell ill after Kim’s return to the village after she was presumed dead.
Frank was also remembered for his alcohol addiction battle and his turbulent relationship with his son Chris (Peter Amory) and daughter Zoe (Leah Bracknell).
Actor Bowler said he was keen to move on to pastures new after nearly eight years on the soap.
He said at the time he wanted a clean break, rather than having an opportunity to come back in the future.
The character was killed off during an hour-long episode in which Kim made a shock return to the village.
Recently it was revealed he was Caleb’s real father, when Caleb announced the news to his son Nicky (Lewis Cope).
He visited his dad’s grave 25 years on from his death, which was one of the show’s most memorable.
Kim had betrayed her husband a number of times, having two different affairs, before faking her own death.
She had set things up to make it look like Frank was the killer and he was sent to prison.
Upon his release, Kim returned to the village and the pair ended up in a blazing row.

The argument ended with Frank suffering a heart attack and Kim leaving him to die.
Her last words to him were: “You’re a dinosaur Frank, and we all know what happened to them.”
Frank’s daughter Zoe found him but it was too late to save him and the truth did not come out until a couple of years later.
When Kim was fighting with son Chris, she admitted to killing Frank before fleeing the country.
After his death it was also revealed Liam Hammond (Mark Powley) was Frank’s illegitimate son from an affair.
Liam was later shot and killed by Zoe during a family feud, and he was buried next to Frank.
Viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the latest plot twist surrounding Caleb and Frank.
Sam Norris explained: “#FrankTate married his first wife #JeanTate in 1962 and she was killed off on the show in 1984.
“Which means Frank Tate was still married to his first wife Jean when Frank slept with #FaithDingle in 1976 when Frank and Faith’s son #CalebMiligan was born.
“#FrankTate 1st marriage to #KimBarker (now known as #KimTate) was back in March 1986 before he turned up in Emmerdale village until 1992 and his 2nd marriage to Kim Tate was 1994 until Frank was killed off on the show back on 27th May 1997.
“Which means when #FrankTate’s son #CalebMiligan was born when #FaithDingle was in prison back in 1976 #FrankTate was still married to #JeanTate Snr his first wife and Frank was also married to #KimBarker now known as #KimTate in 1986 – 1992.” [Sic]
