Gemma Atkinson teases Hollyoaks return 15 years after leaving soap as Lisa's harrowing self-harm episode airs again

GEMMA Atkinson has today teased a return to Hollyoaks – 15 years after leaving the soap.

The actress' admission came as E4 tonight screened her character Lisa's harrowing self-harm episode from 2002 as part of their Hollyoaks@25 season.

Fans were left in tears this evening as the vintage episode was aired showing the teenger cutting herself.

Gemma, now 35 and a mum-of-one, left the soap in 2005 after joining the show four years earlier in 2001 as part of the Hunter family.

She was last on screen in the role in 2006 in a Hollyoaks spin off, Hollyoaks: In the City.

But now it looks like Gemma, who wowed of Strictly in 2017, could be making a return to Chester.

Speaking to The Mirror she teased: "I would always return to Hollyoaks.

"It’s because of that show I’m where I am today and have been able to do so much stuff since, it was my platform, my learning curve into the acting world and I’m so grateful to them.

"I couldn't do it long term as I love my job hosting the drive time show for Hits Radio.

"We broadcast nationally across the UK but from Manchester so I get to be at home which I love, but I’m sure Lisa could pop back for a few weeks to cause some havoc in the village"

Gemma's character Lisa was at the centre of a shocking teenage self harming plot – which was the first of its kind on a UK soap opera in the early 2000s.

Taunted by jealous school bully and toxic friend Steph Dean, Lisa began cutting herself on her arms and legs with scissors and blades.

Lisa kept her self harm a secret until Brian Drake spotted her cuts and believed she was being abused, sending her to the school counsellor.

The storyline quickly set a trend and was later replicated on rival shows EastEnders and Emmerdale.
