On Tuesday’s BBC Breakfast, Sally Nugent and Dan Walker were back on the red sofa bringing viewers the latest news headlines. They discussed a number of topics and spoke with a number of guests, although, one topic which dominated their debates was rising energy prices. Things got particularly heated between Nugent and Kwasi Kwarteng as she grilled him about soaring energy prices and how it will affect families on Universal Credit.
Nugent began the interview by chatting to the MP about what he said at Westminster on Monday.
She quoted Kwarteng as saying about the energy prices, “The light won’t go out this winter”.
“How are you going to keep the lights on?” the host quizzed.
He replied: “One of the things I said yesterday was that we actually have a very diverse and robust source of supply of gas in the UK.”
He continued: “A lot of the conversation has been focussed on the energy suppliers.
“So, the fact we have 50-55 energy suppliers and the difficulties some of those suppliers will face, but I’ve always said my first priority is protecting customers.
“It is a global crisis we are facing,” he added.
However, clearly frustrated with the MP’s response, Nugent pushed again: “Just going to ask you that again. How will you keep the lights on?”
