However, it’s been reported the docu-series will actually hit screens as soon as next month. Series five of The Crown sparked a strong reaction from people who claimed it didn’t make clear enough that events were dramatised for the Netflix show, and many opposed some of the topics covered involving the Royal Family. Harry and Meghan’s show was rumoured to have been pushed back to 2023 in light of the backlash, but there is now reason to believe the show will hit screens next month.
It was recently reported by Deadline that Netflix bosses had become “rattled” by the strong opposition to the series and therefore planned to postpone the fly-on-the-wall series until next year.
However, it’s now rumoured the show will not be delayed and will be launched in December.
An insider seemingly said: “As far as I am aware, the docuseries is still going ahead later this year.”
Speaking to Page Six, the source’s claims seem to contradict reports it will be some time before viewers can watch the highly-anticipated series.
It’s believed the show will cause fresh commotion for the Royal Family and is coupled with Harry’s upcoming memoir, Spare.
The two projects are bound to be explosive and experts have predicted the Sussexes activities will prevent any hopes of a reconciliation between them and Prince William or King Charles III.
It comes after Netflix’s fifth series of The Crown was heavily criticised, particularly by former Prime Minster John Major.
When it was understood the series would depict talks between the then-Prince Charles and Major regarding his plans to take the throne from Queen Elizabeth II, he was quick to step in.
His spokesperson commented: “Sir John has not co-operated in any way with The Crown.
“Nor has he ever been approached by them to fact-check any script material in this or any other series.”
Speaking to the publication, they continued: “There was never any discussion between Sir John and the then Prince of Wales about any possible abdication of the late Queen Elizabeth II.”
Following the widely-publicised retaliations to the royal drama, Netflix apparently decided to hold off on the Sussexes series.
The documentary is said to delve into the couple’s experience with the Royal Family and their decision to step away.
According to The Sun, the Duke and Duchess are still seeking to make changes to the docu-series, particularly following the death of Harry’s grandmother, the Queen, in September.
The couple secured the deal for the streaming service to film their family life in the US.
Much of the filming for the series took place before the death of the Queen.
This has prompted Harry and Meghan to ask for “extensive cuts” to be made.
A source reportedly told said Harry “simply does not want” the series coming out “before Christmas”.
Series five of The Crown is available to watch on Netflix.
Harry and Meghan’s series is expected to land in December.
