Helen George on ‘pressure’ of Call The Midwife Christmas special
Actress Helen George addressed the pressures involved with making the Christmas specials for Call The Midwife during an interview on Thursday’s BBC Breakfast.
Host Naga Munchetty asked the star: “Do you feel the pressure of Call The Midwife for the Christmas special because everyone is always talking about it?
“Even if you don’t watch Call The Midwife, even if you don’t watch the series, the special is kind of what people gravitate to.
“Do think there is a pressure to keep making it better and better? You guys must feel it and the writers must as well.”
Helen replied: “Yes because it has become such a part of the programme so it sort of has to live up to what it’s worth – that’s important.”

When asked if she watches the specials with her family, Helen admitted she was not very good at watching herself back on screen.
“I watch it for my friends but I kind of leave the room when I come on,” she quipped.
Filming is currently underway for series 13 of Call The Midwife and it is expected to air early next year.
Helen teased beach scenes will feature in the next series of the BBC programme away from Poplar, London.

The official Call the Midwife Instagram account shared a behind-the-scenes shot earlier this week.
It showed Linda Bassett and Georgie Glen, the stars who play Nurse Crane and Miss Higgins, on a beach.
They were stood with a pregnant mother on a windy coastline which was revealed to be in Sussex.
The caption read: “Nonnatuns brave the British seaside! What do we have here? Have Nurse Crane and Miss Higgins abandoned Poplar for the delights of the English Riviera? And who is that young mother-to-be that they’re attending to….?”
It concluded: “Last week our team took a special excursion away from the smoke-filled streets of the Sixties East End to film in the fresh coastal air of Sussex.”
Stephen McGann, who plays Doctor Turner in the drama, revealed earlier this summer the cast had filmed the Christmas special.
He told Radio Times in June: “It’s the weirdest feeling in the world to do all the things that everybody else does on Christmas Day, particularly Christmas dinner. “Of course, I’m married to Heidi [Thomas], so Heidi writes the series and she does everything every mum does on Christmas Day.”
BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One from 6am.
