ITV The Chases Bradley Walsh stunned as Jenny The Vixen Ryans unusual past job revealed

The Chase host Bradley Walsh was stunned to discover Jenny "The Vixen" Ryan's previous job when Mark "The Beast" Labbett shared what she used to do in a recent episode.

ITV's hit quiz show sees contestants go up against a team of Chasers, who are all elite quizzers, and in Wednesday's episode, 20 D Jenny's unique qualifications for the job were revealed.

One of the questions the contestants and Chasers had to answer was about the QI elves – the team who come up with the notoriously tough questions on BBC comedy quiz show QI.

Mark revealed: "Jenny was a QI elf."

Bradley was clearly hearing about Jenny's previous job for the first time as he replied in shock: "She was not."

Mark told him: "Why do you think she has so many green outfits?" as a stunned Bradley checked with Mark whether he was joking, but he confirmed: "No I'm not, do you know where that knowledge base comes from, she genuinely was. QI elf."

Jenny's old job certainly explains why she is such a formidable opponent on The Chase, and she has previously shared how she used to work as a quiz show question writer.

She told Radio Times: "I actually worked on the pilot of The Chase and wrote the questions on it. All the questions I wrote have long since been used. If I could remember every question I ever wrote, I'd be the world quiz champion."

Mark's old day job was as a PE and maths supply teacher, but he also had a sideline in quiz question writing that made him an ideal candidate to be a Chaser.

He used to write questions for pub quiz company Redtooth and has said that he first got into quizzing while working at Butlins holiday camp.

The Beast told The Guardian in 2007 of working at Butlins: "I discovered the quiz machines in the bar. I really enjoyed playing and it was also lucrative. At the beginning of the week I banked my £55 wage, except for £3 or £4 which I played on the machines. By the end of the week, I'd have £200 in coins."

Earlier this month, The Chase viewers complained that one episode was "a fix" when Mark appeared to be given a run of easy questions by Bradley as he stormed through the quiz's final round.
