Jeopardy!’s Mayim Bialik stands in solidarity with WGA Writers’ strike

Mayim Bialik presents Celebrity Jeopardy

ABC’s popular game show Jeopardy! has been affected by the ongoing WGA Writers’ strike.

As the writers’ strike continues to impact the world of TV, host Mayim Bialik has shown her support.

According to Deadline, she decided to opt out of her usual duties for the final week of filming for season 39, standing in solidarity with the writers.

However, the outlet understands that production on the final run of episodes going ahead with Ken Jennings taking over instead.

Filming is set to take place at the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City between Tuesday, May 16 and Friday, May 19.

Jeopardy! is a WGA show and features contributions from WGA writers, but questions were written in advance of a season and the strike.

Mayim and Ken have shared hosting duties this season, with Ken hosting the first stretch of episodes between August and December.

The Big Bang Theory star started her stint in January, presenting shows leading up to the most recent episode.

After Mayim’s recent walkout, it has been announced that Ken will now host the last week before the summer hiatus.

It comes after Mayim recently returned to Jeopardy! for the first time after her 10-month break from hosting duties.

She spent a lengthy time away from the hit game show due to her role on the Fox sitcom Call Me Kat, as the titular.

Unfortunately, Mayim made her return to ABC after the network cancelled the comedy after just three seasons.

This was due to a ratings decline after this season, with the comedy averaging 2.23 million viewers, down 24 per cent, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jeopardy! isn’t the only show to be affected by the writers’ strike.

Last week the MTV Movie & TV Awards was thrown into chaos when actress Drew Barrymore showed her support for the ongoing strike.

Despite Drew’s absence, the ceremony still went ahead but did not air as a live show like it had in previous years.

Instead, the ceremony consisted of each winner receiving their award via a pre-recorded clip.

Jeopardy! airs on NBC in the US.
