Motor enthusiasts were thrilled when The Grand Tour finally persevered through COVID delays and returned with a new special over Christmas.
In just the second episode of the show’s fourth season, the former Top Gear trio embarked on a treacherous journey across Madagascar in search of pirate gold.
Releasing early on December 17, petrolheads enjoyed a whole hour and a half of new content from Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May after just over a year’s delay.
Their plans for an exciting fourth season of The Grand Tour were scuppered by the outbreak of coronavirus back in March.

Although filming in Vietnam and Madagascar was completed, a proposed trip to Russia for their third special was put on hold by the pandemic.
Thankfully, the hosts were able to make a more local excursion for their next special, which is hoped to be released later this year.
Jeremy Clarkson previewed the new episode when he spoke to Express.co.uk ahead of the release of A Massive Hunt.
He revealed: “We have just done a big show here in the UK […] We’ve just been to the Outer Hebrides.”
Giving more details, he then confirmed: “It’s not a 90 minute special but a 60 minute one.”
The Grand Tour’s usual editing process was cut short when producer Andy Wilman fell ill with COVID-19, meaning the feature length Madagascar special took much more time to finish than planned.
Now the show’s creative force is back behind the wheel, it’s hoped the wait for The Grand Tour’s Scotland special won’t go on for much longer.
Plus, the new episode’s shorter run time could mean Wilman and the editing team will be able to fast-track the Scotland footage for an early 2021 release.

Despite the good news, Jeremy Clarkson still expressed frustration with the new limits put on the series in the wake of the pandemic.
He confessed: “In some ways it makes me a bit annoyed because I’ve got so little of the world left to see and I’m not getting round and seeing it.
“I would love to be in Zimbabwe right now, or Iran, or any other handful of countries I haven’t been to and ticking them all off. But, I’m not.”
Before the new year, Clarkson maintained two special episodes of The Grand Tour would be released in 2021, confirming the trip to Russia hadn’t been cancelled.
Unfortunately, that may change as England enters another national lockdown this week.
Still, there is renewed hope television and film productions can return to normal soon as the UK’s vaccine roll-out continues to gain traction.
Whatever the outcome, it’s unlikely fans will ever have to wait for another whole year to see Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May get behind the wheel yet again.
