SIR Ken Dodd has left hospital, six weeks after being admitted with a nasty chest infection.
In January, The Sun revealed how 90-year-old Ken had been rushed to a ward after falling ill at home.
Tonight Ken told The Mirror he was happy to be back at home and praised the NHS workers who had taken care of him.
He said: “I have been so very, very well-treated – I can’t praise the staff here too highly. They have been absolutely wonderful.
“And the kindness and, dare I say it, affection I have been shown has been absolutely amazing.
“It’s been overwhelming because I’ve been lucky enough to receive thousands of cards and so I really do want to sincerely thank everyone – all the staff and all the people who have wished me well.
“It has all helped me get better, there is no doubt about that.”
Ken is now recovering at home but admitted he “wasn’t out of the woods”.
He cracked a joke however and said he wanted his “legs sorted out because they seem to take me in a different direction than the one I want to go in!”
While in hospital, cruel trolls started to spread rumours that Ken had passed away.
His agent said of the claims: “This report was upsetting and, of course, completely untrue – but reports like this get passed around very quickly, which is what makes them all the more distressing.”
Ken, knighted in 2017 for his 64-year comedy career and charity work, believed he picked up the illness at his sellout gig at the Liverpool Echo Arena in December — just as the Australian flu gripped the UK.
