In screen grabs posted to the social media site, a conversation can be seen between the two characters as they discussed where to meet ahead of last night’s intense standoff.

But fans were left entertained as they looked above the discussion to find them chatting about Jo’s favourite pastry.

In a past conversation, Kate tells Jo that she’s buying a coffee and asks if her boss would like one too.

Jo replies saying: “Cappuccino would be great!" with a thumbs-up emoji. And when Kate offers to buy her a pastry to accompany it, Jo is only too happy to accept.

She replies: “Go on then 😛 almond croissant if they've got it.”

After spotting the texts, diehard fans praised the show for the small details, saying that it all helps add to the characters and story.

One said: “This is great stuff. Really annoys me in some things when you see someone texting and there's zero previous chat between the character.”

While another added: “Get you a girl who texts you if you want a pastry on her way to work”.

However, these aren't the only text messages the armchair detectives have decoded from last night’s episode.

Others also detailed what Kate and her colleague, DI Steve Arnott, played by Martin Compston, had been talking about.

They noticed that Kate had sent Steve a meme and then told him: “Reminded me of you” with a laughing crying emoji.

Tracking it down and posting it to Twitter, one viewer shared: “I FOUND THE MEME KATE SENT STEVE #LineofDuty ” before attaching a shot of a dog in a waistcoat – a nod to Steve’s now famous attire.
